About Oleic Acid, Organic

Oleic acid is a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. It is often found in various animal and vegetable fats and oils. Chemically, it is a carboxylic acid with an 18-carbon chain and a cis-double bond at the ninth carbon from the omega end.

Organic oleic acid offers the same functional benefits as conventional oleic acid but with the added advantage of being sourced from organic and natural origins, meeting the demand for organic-certified and environmentally friendly products across various industries.

Common Uses and Applications

  • Organic Food Products: Organic oleic acid can be used as a food additive in the production of organic-certified food items such as organic baked goods, organic margarine, organic dressings, and organic confectionery. Its emulsifying and flavor-enhancing properties make it valuable in organic food formulations.
  • Organic Cosmetics and Personal Care Products: Organic oleic acid is utilized in organic skincare products, organic lotions, organic creams, and organic moisturizers. Its emollient properties make it suitable for organic cosmetics, providing hydration and enhancing the texture of organic formulations.
  • Organic Pharmaceutical Formulations: Just like conventional oleic acid, organic oleic acid can be used in organic pharmaceutical formulations as an excipient, particularly in the production of organic oral and topical medications. It acts as a natural lubricant, emulsifier, and solubilizer in organic pharmaceutical preparations.
  • Organic Soap and Detergent Production: Organic oleic acid is employed in the production of organic soaps, organic detergents, and other organic cleaning products. Its surfactant and emulsifying properties contribute to the effectiveness of these products, while its organic origin aligns with the principles of organic certification.
  • Organic Industrial Applications: In organic industrial processes, organic oleic acid can be used in the manufacturing of organic lubricants, organic plasticizers, and organic paints. Additionally, it can serve as a feedstock for the production of organic biodiesel, supporting organic and sustainable alternatives in the energy sector.
